Duke and Duke law firm papers, 1854-1956.

Files of the Duke family law practice in Charlottesville, Virginia covering 1854 to 1956. Series I contains incoming letters, and Series II has letterpress copies of outgoing correspondence. Series III is comprised of the practice's case files arranged alphabetically within decades. Series IV has legal documents, principally deeds and abstracts of title, and Series V has financial documents such as notes, bonds, collections, etc. Series VI contains general office correspondence as well as some cases. Series VII has the records of the Insurance Agency of Charlottesville which operated in the law office from 1923 to 1927. Series VIII contains family business files, civic material and miscellany.
